Styling long hair

Thank you all for all your wonderful comments. Sorry i have not updated in months. The longer my hair gets, the more I'm running out of new style options. What are my options, hats, scarves, curls, straight, updo, knots, ponytail...then what? Have you got any suggestions? Right now i'm itching for a very angled, shoulder length, bob haircut. I don't have the nerve to chop yet and most people say not to cut it. My sister thinks the whole point of growing locks is: how long can you grow? Neat and even is what i want....i think. Anyway, this is what my hair looks like when it needs washing: limp curls and flat.

here it is nice and clean. My favorite go-to hairstyle. Easy, long lasting and edgy.

A lot of people think that lockers are supposed to let their hair grow and grow and grow. I don't think that I'll let mine get longer than bra strap length. Were you able to enjoy many styling options at that length?

Oh yeah, I think a bob would be very chic! Go for what makes you happy.

Good to see you posting again.

Edgy is definitely a good description. When you carry yourself with a fierce attitude you can wear such a fierce hairstyle. You are working it honey.

I totally agree with SG, go with what makes you happy. Plus I'm curious to see how you look with it.

"Limp" is the incorrect word to use for your hair in the first pic. It looks thick and full of body to me.

As far as styles.. I'm the last person that could help you. I'm to lazy to do anything with my hair and can't imagine having your length.

You're rocking that style!!!!

I so admire your locks and your length. I know running out of styles can be frustrating but I'm sure you will come up with something that makes you happy.

Greetings! From a "seasonal" Blogger... {yeah, I'm only gonna post a few months a year on my blog}... As a 8.7 year Lock-Vet, I have this advice for you:
If you love the length of your hair, DO NOT CUT IT OFF!!! yeah, 'cause now, I no longer have my locks, {scroll down my blog "Big Girls Don't Cry" for pics of my fro, 2STwists}. After a few months of constantly styling, I am missing my past-the-shoulder-length locks! {and "almost" hatin' on yours!} even when I had shoulder-length permed hair, I got "bored" with it, saying things like "I can't do nothing with it" or "It just hangs there!" HELLO??!
Isn't that what LONG HAIR is supposed to do???? even when I cut 3 inches of permed hair off, I was in full regret mode!
I will say this though, washing my loose hair, using a comb and brush for the first time in over 8 years felt REAL GOOD!!! but, I DO Miss My LoCkS! I miss the "Simple" styles of having long hair, like pulling it all into a ponytail, unity-Afrikan braid, or just my crocheted hats, or headwraps.
Time for a new journey, and I'm so sorry for hi-jacking your comment space!

Take Care~

Hi Idol: I've missed you! I understand what you are going thru cause it seems that I am running out of options and its only been 4 months for me! So you really wear your hair like that? I thought it was a set. You rocking it though! Before you cut into a bob ask yourself what will be different about your styling options. If you can only wear it into a bob then you will be back in the same boat ur in now. I haven't been able to update my blkog yet either but I will let you know when I do.

The bob is a very happening look right now. My prediction is that people will go shorter after the "bob" has had its run. No matter what, all of these are trends that will be here one day and gone the next.

At the same time, it could be an idea to get that edgy angled cut with longer hair if you are not willing to cut to shoulder length all at once. A big, tousled, long bang with a straight cut to mid-back in the back. People used to call this a "Chinese cut," and it was a popular look on wigs.

No matter what you do, you always carry yourself with sophistication and confidence. You can't go wrong!

Yes, your locks look fresh! Those jumbo bantu knots are so cute as well. Don't cut your locks just yet because there are plenty of styles you can do. You might want to try black hair magazines (even though most of the styles are for permies) but you can apply the same techniques to your locks. That's what I plan to do when mine get longer, if i'm not lazy lol!

Hi. I do so admire your hair. I have locks that are nearing their 2 year mark and I admit to being hot already. I definitely want to see how long my hair will get, so being where I am, I would plead to the cause of not cutting all that beautiful hair off! However, it does grow rapidly and it isn't like you could not have longer locks again, but oft times people cut their hair, then keep on cutting it until one day they have a fro or start their locks all over again.

Nonetheless, I am not sure that you have tried some styles like corn rowing your hair going back into a bun or cornrowing it up in the back and sides into a bun...or braiding the locks into pig tails for the pocohontas look...I dunno...I love the knots and the curls and waves, but it seems to be that there are endless possibilities with hair that long.

I wish you the best on your journey.
