Just water

over the years, i've tried all kinds of ways to moisturize my hair. now i think the best thing for my hair is just plain water. i spray my hair daily with water using a 99cent spray bottle. when i wear my hair curly i only spray it right before setting it. in addition, i sleep on shiny, smooth sheets, if not satin. i travel with this as well, and i do the same for my daugher. i realized that cotten sheets not only absorb the oils in our hair but, makes our hair so full of lint. so annoying. also, when i used to lightly oil my hair, i couldn't stand the smell of the oil in my hair; and the oil made my hair even more a lint and dirt magnet. it was also harder to clean/shampoo my hair after it was oiled. so i just stopped all that stuff, and started using water. i notice how quickly my hair absorbed the water so sometimes i mist it several times throughout the day. it adds movement to my hair. now on another note, i like my hair to smell good all the time. so while i contemplated spraying it lightly with my favorite fragrance, CKbe, i didn't. BUT, i filled an empty CKbe bottle with water and used it to mist my hair. boy do i love how it smells in my hair and it doesn't have to compete with another fragrance on my body.

Ok Didn't understand what she said but any whoo... Hi Idol! I love the mohawk. I have updated my blog too. Please check it out. Your hair is still looking great! I haven't thought about misting my hair daily. I know I love the way it feels after I wash it, it has so much bounce. I think I will try it!

Yes, I agree that water is the best moisturizer and that's all I use on my locks as well.

I am happy u updated too. I love your locks. You and the kiddie are cute. Don't you love how the only product you really need with SLs is water?

Wow! Your locs are beautiful. How long have you had them? I'm new to this blogging thing:-) I find that water works for me also. By the way how often do you shampoo and do you braid before shampooing? Thanks for the info

Your hair looks wonderful! Soooo happy to see your updates because you are always doing somthing new and interesting! I have three questions: did you color? you hair looks lighter. How long does it take you to tighten? Any tips on how to make the process faster or more enjoyable?

Q Ball's daughter,
thank you and welcome to the world of blogging. i've had them since 5/2001, 7 years. i shampoo once a week but my hair needs shampooing by the 5th day. my scalp feels grimy and itchy and is flaky at day 5 . separating my locs after each washing is what stops me from washing my hair more often. it just takes the fun out of cleaning my hair and makes it that more time-consuming. ditto for braiding before washing which i don't do. my hair never felt clean after 'braid-washing'. i love the smell of freshly washed hair. i would love to wash my hair more frequently and i will as soon as i have consultant again to maintain it.

smayo,
thank you. no color yet, but the ends of my hair is much lighter than the roots. and boy would i love to color my hair some darker color like beets or something to conceal the white bulbs. maybe a henna rinse. why don't they have coloring shampoos yet or do they? maybe i should try rinsing my hair in some beet juice.... hmmm. it takes me 2 full days to retighten or 1 week if i do a little each day. i listen to music when i'm retightening my hair. a faster way for me would be a consultant.

Audrey,

Do you know how many SLs you have? I just wondered for fullness sake. Your coiffure is as beautiful as always.
I'm glad you mentioned the water, because I would prefer just water. I tried the SL spray moisturizer, but it has mineral oil in it (like spraying diluted baby oil), and just figured there had to be something better. I have since gone back to water (sometimes scented).
I too, have to shampoo every five days or so, my scalp will catch afire if I don't...lol.

Amina,
thank you. i think i have between 380-400 locs. i tried counting one time and lost count. One day i will try again. it surely feels like 1,000 locs when i have to retighten (laugh).

Hey Audrey,

I'm trying to catch up on folks' blogs. I'm glad you share styles and ideas for us "creatively challenged" lockers. I need to shampoo more often and give my locks more of the "water love" they deserve. Thanks for your inspiration to the community.

So glad you posted about daily spritzing your hair with water. I agree that it moisturizes the hair quite well and allows it to move freer without products that can weigh it down. Unfortunately I stopped doing this after my loctician encouraged me not to. She said wetting the hair too much wasn't good. Well, perhaps because she wears traditional locks, she thinks this this is so for traditional locks. Anyway, after reading your blog, I am going back to daily spritzing. Spritzing does not seem to have negatively effected your locks at all.
